With approximately 54,000 visitors per year, stairs to the King of Aragon is one of the most popular landmarks in the city, or even, Corsica. Its success was this curiosity of nature: a staircase of 187 steps splitting the cliff on a slope of 45 °. Legend would have been dug in one night by the troops of the King of Aragon Alfonso the Magnanimous V during the siege of Bonifacio in 1420. But its construction and use by Franciscan friars to reach the water source drinking at the bottom of the stairs is the most probable theory. Source City of Bonifacio
