The convent of Piedicroce

Above the village are the ruins covered with ivy the imposing Franciscan convent Orezza . It was destroyed in 1943 by the Germans, who had turned into ammunition depot . He played a major role in the eighteenth century in the history of the region: first, in 1731 , Canon Erasmo Orticoni and other theologians met here to discuss the legitimacy of a major revolt against Genoa. In January 1735 , Giacinto Paoli ( father Pasquale ) , Luigi Giafferi and Sebastiano COSTA there voted the independence of Corsica and the need to adopt a constitution. In 1744 , Saint Leonard of Porto Maurizio , appointed by the pope, preached against the vendetta which decimated Corsica at the time. Finally , it is said in 1790 , Pasquale Paoli and Napoleon BONAPARTE there would be encountered. Abandoned with the French Revolution , the convent gradually fall in ruins, although rehabilitation projects are discussed in recent years.
