Station Biguglia: The wildlife park of Biguglia

This pond is the biggest lagoon in the Mediterranean for water birds and is very important on an international level. It belongs to the township and is classified as a wildlife park. The pond is 180Ha wide and follows the coastline through the towns of Lucciana, Borgo, Biguglia and Furiani on the outskirts of Bastia. The coastline conservatoire is protecting this environment with “natural windows”, very much appreciated by the ramblers. Here you can visit the eco-museum of the small fort, where you can learn about the history of the pond, of the fort, of the surroundings of the pond, of the lagoon fishing and its development. You can discover the environmental patrimony: birds’ migration, wonderful fauna and flora, hydrogeology, origins of the pond… The site offers a stunning view of the pond from the upper floor terrace. A real marvel, the park counts a stunning diversity of flora, about 30 types of plants and flowers are classified as rare or extremely rare. Regarding birds, the pond counts 120 different species.
