Station Francardo: The Corsica Regional Nature Park

The Regional Natural Park of Corsica is a protected area Defrance which covers an area of 350,510 hectares, or nearly 40% of the island. It houses 26,700 residents from 145 member municipalities. A key task of the Park is to ensure that the preservation and recovery, in an integrated manner to ensure the territory's bio diversity and quality, guarantees of sustainable development. A large number of species or rare plant communities are present, including a high proportion of endemic. Some of these fragile formations, such as "pozzine" are subject to special attention. Wildlife also rich, includes several threatened or endangered (the Corsican mouflon, osprey, bearded vulture ...). The Park is actively protect them: it runs a project to reintroduce extinct, deer Corsica and manages the "LIFE" bearded European project. Park also participates in the protection of sensitive sites (mountain lakes), safeguarding of traditional architecture (sheep, mills, old houses ...), the implementation of value and small buildings built heritage preservation of the frescoes in chapels and archaeological remains (Pianu di Livia).
