The maps' room named after the forty maps frescoed on the walls of a gallery of the Vatican built between 1578 and 1580 by Ottavianio Mascherino . It measures 120 meters long and six wide. Forty maps represent regions of Italy and the possessions of the Church at the time of Pope Gregory XIII ( 1572-1585 ) . They were painted between 1580 and 1585. The map of Corsica, which is upside down, highlights the Cap Corse which is down and provides valuable information about the names of places and the presence of strong points at the end of the sixteenth century.
