The first museum in Bastia dates back from 1898. In 1922, it was transferred to the Marbeuf barracks and named “Corsican museum of Bastia”. A part of its archives and collections was stolen during the occupation. In 1952 it was renamed “The ethnographic museum of Corsica” and was moved to the palace of the Genovese governors. This new museum is a mix of ancient collections and rural ethnographic works. The governors’ palace, which was partly destroyed during the 2nd world war, was rebuilt to welcome the public. Since 2004, a new program focused on Bastia history. The museum is now 8 213 m². Bastia Tourist Office
