Canari, 330 permanent inhabitants (in 2010), extends over 1,667 hectares (16.7 km ²). The name of Kanelate (ancestor of Canari) is found on the maps of Ptolemy, the Greek geographer of the second century of our era. The Pieve Canary (administrative unit at the time of the Pisans) depended on the bishop of Saint Florent. The Santa Maria Assunta church, Romanesque style, dates back from the twelfth century. From 1300 to 1768, Canari, like other municipalities of Cap Corse, has a turbulent history. Its land, property of rich Genovese, Italians, Corsicans, underwents several campaigns of destruction.
